Brent has 30 years’ experience in New Zealand dairy industry from farm through to customers. He has extensive experience in new business and product development including establishing new companies and products through to leading other organisations to improved positions. He has specialised in Membrane Technology since 1997 and can design and build a large range of membrane applications.
When he is not managing the business, Brent is involved in a wide variety of interests including vintage vehicle restoration, landscape gardening, water sports (sailing and water skiing) and coaching sports teams.
My commitment is to putting dairy process managers at ease regarding all things related to membrane filtration technologies.
Mark has deep roots in the dairy industry having been born raised and working on a farm before spending some time in the animal health industry. He then went on to spend almost 24 years in Fonterra and became proficient through operations, technical leadership, and commercial roles.
Mark has also led high performing and highly engaged technical teams delivering on multi-million-dollar projects. In addition, in Mark’s technical capacity, he has invested much of his time developing and mentoring many young technical graduates into the industry.
Mark is very active and loves getting involved with triathlons, on and off-road marathons and mountain biking. In addition, he loves being engaged with the rural community he lives in and strives to undertake new adventures with his family when the opportunity presents itself.
Being a recognized industry expert, with a track record of integrity, engagement and results, I strive each day to continually grow and make myself better. This results in a sharing or passing of value on to others, resulting in win-win outcomes for both customers and stakeholders.
Prior to joining Smart Membrane Solutions, Kathrine worked at Fonterra for 11 ½ years. During her time at Fonterra she gained vast experience in multiple areas of the business, including manufacturing, technical, quality and supply chain areas.
Kathrine’s expertise in communication and interpersonal skills allows her to tailor communications to suit her target audience. Kathrine is also highly analytical and demonstrates the ability to identify, interpret and communicate complex information in an easy to understand way.
The ability to identify complex problems, review all related information to develop and evaluate options, through to implementing solutions means that customers can trust that the most appropriate procedures and Quality Standards are used to meet their needs. In addition, Kathrine has a high level of computer literacy and is proficient in multiple software programs.
Kathrine enjoys being active and exercising regularly, including mountain biking, running and horse riding.
I enjoy resolving complex issues with straightforward solutions and optimizing process and systems to improve efficiency.
David has a customer-driven mindset and extensive experience in sales and product management. His expertise in component sales and selections, and product training for customers ensure consistently high customer support. In his previous account manager role with Tetra Pak (2018–2020), David provided sales support and business development to end users with SMS, and other engineering houses, who used Alfa Laval and Tetra Pak products on projects. Now part of the team, David brings all his skills and experience directly to SMS and our customers.
David’s family is a big priority outside work. He has four grandchildren and also packs in mountain biking, hunting, and back-country 4 x 4 exploring. In addition, his commitment to conservation work involves setting traps for pests (rats, stoats, weasels, cats and ferrets) to protect the Whio (the native blue duck) in the central North Island’s Pureroa Forest Park. The return on his time and energy is very gratifying, when Whio and their ducklings are observed in the Maramataha River where the trap line is set.
I really enjoy being on a customer site and delivering solutions for applications in a timely and customer driven manner. In short: I like to get things done for customers.
Annelise has extensive experience in the dairy industry having worked for Fonterra as a project engineer and a process products manager and Tetra Pak, as a project manager.
A solutions-focused team member, Annelise brings all her expertise to design process improvements for our customers. Once the design is finalised, she manages the project to specify new equipment. In addition, Annelise works closely with sub-contractors to install new equipment, and then commissions the process changes in the plant before handing the finished process back to the plant operations team.
Annelise understands the complexity of process, and her experience and skill in analysing what needs to be done, by whom and by when enhances her project management skills. She actively listens to customers to ensure that she understands their project needs. Combined with her proven track record of delivering the necessary process improvements, as well as site-managing the installation of equipment and commissioning the plant, Annelise is a valued and trusted advisor.

In her spare time, Annelise keeps active with ballet, yoga and running. During summer, she takes advantage of the brilliant New Zealand outdoors and goes camping, fishing and hiking; recently, she completed her first Great Walk. In winter, her love of skiing motivates her to get up to the mountains whenever she can.

Olaf grew up in a mechanical engineering family. Since 2000, Olaf has worked in a wide range of engineering specialties, including engineering structural steel, transport engineering, steel and aluminum truck decks, and structural components for Antarctica for the US military.
In addition, Olaf has extensive experience in mechanical design, comprising food display, earth- moving machinery equipment and components, concrete patching plants and silo storage, conveyance for the concrete and food industries, and platforms and walkways complying to Australia and New Zealand Standards (AS/NZS).
A family man, Olaf takes great interest in his family’s passions: currently, the passion is racing sport ATVs (All Terrain Vehicles). As a result, Olaf is Vice President of Canterbury ATV and an official of Motorcycling New Zealand (MNZ) including Steward Level 4 and Clerk of the Course Level 2. It’s clear that Olaf is a massive ‘speedway nut’ and he’s either raced or been a crew member since he was 12 years old. Olaf loves watching all forms of motor racing and follows Supercars, as well as the National Rugby League religiously.
I get great enjoyment from assisting clients’ ideas come to life, from concepts in their head to working examples. By creating systems and products in CAD and providing specialist information, we move the ideas into reality.
After completing a Bachelor of Science, Charlotte worked in an artificial breeding laboratory at herd improvement and agri-technology co-operative, Livestock Improvement Corporation. She then moved to supply chain and logistics at Fonterra where she held a variety of roles.
Now with SMS, Charlotte is responsible for executing customer orders to the delivery process. She ensures that quality product is supplied in a timely manner, with the additional goal that we exceed our customers’ expectations.
Charlotte is a details person. Her practical and systematic approach ensures that orders are actioned efficiently. In additon, you can trust that the ‘customer’ is at the centre of every transaction.

Lyndal started in the dairy industry in 1995 on the Graduate Training Programme. She worked as a Process Manager in Cheese, prior to starting in a projects environment. In 2002, Lyndal joined Smart Membrane Solutions and since then has managed the manufacture and supply of SMS Membrane Filtration accessories, Human Resources and Financial Management.
Lyndal’s expertise is in both administrative and leadership skills. She is able to manage suppliers to ensure things are completed on time, at the right quality and in specification.
As a mother of three children, Lyndal provides opportunities for the development of confident individuals: all are involved with sport and music. Lyndal’s family does a lot of camping and water sports over the summer, and support each other in team sports in the winter. Lyndal has a passion for the sport of hockey, and her desire to provide children and adults with the chance to train and play hockey locally has led to the founding of the Waikirikiri Hockey Club. Lyndal is the founding president of the club, was on the Board of Canterbury Hockey for 4 years and was awarded the NZ Hockey Administrator of the Year 2017.

Nik started his career in science after completing a Bachelor of Science degree at university. However, he quickly realised that data and analysis interested him the most. As a result, he started building databases to hold and analyse scientiﬁc data. Not only was the work very rewarding but he also found huge demand for these skills, especially when he moved to Europe and worked in London and Dublin.
For the past 20 years Nik has specialised in data, databases, data analysis, and business intelligence (BI). Most recently, he led a team of consultants in this ﬁeld at the Christchurch office of New Zealand’s largest IT company.
Nik’s expertise and comprehensive knowledge of data, databases, data analysis and BI make him a valuable asset to the team and our customers.
A technology expert, Nik’s specialist interest and curiosity in all things technology mean he’s across the latest developments and trends. Importantly, top of mind for Nik is how to ensure that the business and customers derive tangible beneﬁts from the research and development and application of technology.
Naturally curious, Nik prides himself on understanding how things work and relate in order to problem solve. In addition to being a strong team player, Nik has excellent decision-making, leadership and communication skills.
Nik’s young family is his main interest outside work and they particularly enjoy holidaying and exploring new places together. Nik loves all aspects of travel including the planning and logistics, as well as exploring new cultures, language, food and experiences. A researcher at heart, even when not at work, Nik enjoys a project or a problem to solve. This includes areas such as optimal house design, systems for self-sufficiency, electric cars and how to automate his home.

Lauree’s background has been in the fast-moving-consumer-goods (FMCG) industry in a variety of analytical roles including production scheduling, sales forecasting, sales profitability and trade marketing. Over recent years she has also been involved with the administration and analytics of her husband’s electronics business.
Lauree’s attention to detail, high level of reliability and responsiveness ensures that efficiency and effectiveness are paramount. A natural problem solver, Lauree applies these vital skills to the detail of her role, especially when it comes to the numbers.
Lauree enjoys supporting her three children in their sporting and cultural endeavors and often takes this time to get out in the fresh air for a good walk. In the community, she loves to support mothers of young children through the church and community groups she is involved in. She also likes to bake, dabble in birthday-cake decorating and if there is ever any spare time, Lauree loves to read a good book and attempt a bit of sewing!

Since 2006, Nicola and her husband have operated a road contracting business. Nicola’s responsibilities have comprised of business systems and quality accreditation, health and safety, business accounts, sales and programming work. Prior to owning a business, Nicola worked in project coordination for a mechanical and electrical engineering company and in customer service management in the manufacturing sector. Nicola was also regional team leader for a corporate warehouse/distribution business.
Nicola is a ‘systems’ person and her expertise lies in her attention to detail and ability to problem solve. Her focus is providing:
Nicola enjoys walking, cycling, yoga and summer camping with her family. She particularly loves to read and since having a family has always volunteered for local community groups. Nicola currently supports one of her local sports clubs.
